I have two groups of fifth graders who are just finishing up a non-fiction unit. After reading a book that went from 1900-2000, with a sub-title for every ten years, we decided to "finish the book" by making our own time lines that went from 2000-2010, 2011-2020, and 2020-2022. With total access to Google, you had to love this group's creativity!
- What was the most important event in 2011? "I was born." "Me, too." "Me, too". I made them add their actual dates of birth!
- "Can we add more to 2022? Like the last day of school?" Of course!
- "I'm going to this really cool moto-cross event in July? Can I put that down?" Definitely!
